Gungnir - Nerf Gun Mod by bdunn1342 Gungnir - Nerf Gun Mod by bdunn1342
A Maverick Nerf gun that was disassembled and reworked with acrylic paint. It still works just fine.

More stuff that was done a while ago. I'm not sure why it never got posted. The brainchild of ~JavanDrakar and I, we're slowly decorating the small library nook of the apartment with a Steampunk/Lovecraft theme.

The other completed pistol can be found here: [link]

If you are interested in commissioning a similar pistol, please note me.

If you like this, please consider commissioning me. [link]

Yet another 'nerf gun paint job' This NOT what Steampunk is about. It is about creating your own design of a gun. OK, use a nerf gun as a start point but at least add some mods too it ffs

I dry brush with metallic craft acrylic over a spray painted base.

I was wondering, how long does it take to make something like this? What sort of supplies are needed and how much do they cost?

Hmm...it really depends on your method. It takes longer if you take it apart, but I find it's easier to keep clean lines and get to all of the little areas. However, I'm not the one that does the assembly here, ~zombiecook does. It probably takes us 12 - 16 hours, painting and assembly.

As to supplies, I don't really know what you're starting with, but I'll try to give a full list. Though I don't have prices on the incidentals. I use a Dremel, various grades of sandpaper, a set of tiny screwdrivers, and a set of flat acrylic brushes.

In addition to that, the base Maverick ($10 - $15), spray paint for the base ($5 - $10), metallic craft acrylic (about $3 a bottle), craft sealant ($3 - $5). The cost is relative to the number of colors you use. For the above piece, I used 10 colors of metallic craft acrylic. You could certainly use less if you're trying to save money. I just use 2 or 3 paints on each 'color section' to add depth and richness to the tone.

Did you use sandpaper to get the Nerf logo off it?

It's actually buffed off with a Dremel sanding head. Then I sand the rest by hand to polish of burrs of plastic and make the plastic take the spray paint base color better.

You don't *have* to take it apart. I choose to for a couple of reasons. If it's disassembled, I don't have to worry about getting spray paint (which I use as a base coat) in the internal moving parts. I also find it's easier to keep the different colors cleaner (there is less accidental bleed from one piece to another).

I hope this clarifies it. :)

In case anyone's wondering, Gungnir was Thor's Spear, second only to the hammer Mjollnir.

What kind of paints did you use and did you have to disassemble the nerf gun before painting it? If possible could you write up a tutorial?

I've never tried doing a tutorial before, but I'll give it a go the next time I mod one.

I do dissemble if possible (though depending on the gun, some come further apart than others). I use a spray paint base and acrylics for the dry brushing.

I hope that helps. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.

The tip on dry-brushing was very helpful, and I'm very impressed with what you've done with these guns. Jules is beautiful, an absolutely fine piece! :) maybe when I finally post a deviation it'll be of some of my mods haha

This looks amazing. How did you paint it? Did you just sand off the shine and paint it on or did you use any special adhesives?

It's actually dry brushed acrylic. The only sanding done was before the base coat. I hope this helps. Sorry for the delay.

i modded a nerf longshot for my friend, and we ended up naming it gungnir too.

this is...kinda trippy.

That's just craziness. Though in truth, it was ~JavanDrakar that named it that (as it's his gun). But definitely weird.

Thanks for the link!
